My first narration! New Unabridged Audiobook of TAU CETI
I’ve had plenty of my titles produced as unabridged audiobooks before, but now I’ve finally had a chance to be the narrator myself. I always enjoy listening to audiobooks read by the original author, even if they may not be as terrific as professional narrators, such as my usual readers Scott Brick or Jim Meskimen.
For my short hard-SF novel TAU CETI, I had a chance to be the narrator for half of the audiobook production, performed by myself and local audiobook reader, producer, and voice talent Gigi Shane. TAU CETi is a story of a generation ship on a centuries-long voyage to a hoped-for new home in a planet orbiting Tau Ceti…while back on Earth, after an extended effort, the repressive government has developed their own faster-than-light stardrive, and they just may be able to reach the Tau Ceti planet before the generation ship arrives. It’s a centuries-long version of Tortoise & Hare.
The novel has two storylines, one from a male character, Andre Pellar, and another from a female character, Jorie Taylor. I read all of the Andre chapters, and Gigi read all of the Jorie chapters. In her in-home studio, I sat down day after day with my manuscript pages at the microphone, reading my parts, and then Gigi recorded her own parts. Then she had the hard part, of editing out all the glitches, massaging the audio files, adding music, making it a full-blown professional production.
You can listen to the audio at audible.com and it should also be up on amazon.com and iTunes shortly.
This was a couple of months of work. I hope you enjoy it—this was a lot of fun, but also an involved production. (I was recording this while Neil Peart was recording the unabridged audiobook of CLOCKWORK ANGELS, and each evening we would compare notes on the process.) I certainly understand how much work Scott Brick and Jim Meskimen put in on each of my audiobooks!
I hope you enjoy TAU CETI. Note, the print book is available as well, which also includes an original sequel novelette by Steven Savile (which is not included in the audiobook).
