Rebecca and I flew to Sydney to be guests at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo, arriving very early in the morning on Thursday. We got to the hotel, but they didn't have our room ready yet at 6 AM (no surprise). We met fellow guest James Marsters in the lobby, who was also waiting to get into his room. After a few hours in the executive lounge, we were finally able to check into the room, shower, change clothes, then get ready to meet fellow writer Bryan Logan, who had volunteered to drive us around the Sydney Beaches for sightseeing...

We've just received the cover art for SISTERHOOD OF DUNE, a beautiful wraparound painting, similar in design to THE WINDS OF DUNE. Rather than highlighting the Bene Gesserit, the art director chose a (relatively minor) scene in the novel of a female Fremen in a raid on a rival spice operation. The Sisterhood school probably didn't offer very dramatic imagery! The novel will be released in March 2012.

Back when Brian Herbert and I first started working in the Dune universe, all of Frank Herbert's non-Dune novels were out of print and unavailable. Since then, Tor Books has reissued numerous backlist titles, including The Dosadi Experiment, Whipping Star, The White Plague, Hellstrom's Hive, The Eyes of Heisenberg, The Santaroga Barrier, The Green Brain, and The Dragon in the Sea.  The rest of Frank Herbert's work, as well as his collaborations with Bill Ransom (and Ransom's solo novels) have remained out of print, however.
